LAZERIAN X SIGNKID
Using art and sculpture to raise awareness of inclusivity in the arts
Lawless Studio
partnered with
The National Lottery
Part two of our partnership with National Lottery Good Causes : The People’s Portraits, where we recognise ordinary people doing great things with lottery funding.
For this one we recognised the work of deaf British writer, producer and signsong rapper, Kevin Walker, aka SignKid.
We worked with Liam Hopkins to build a pair of sculptures that represent the word VISUAL in British Sign Language - a word used a lot of Signkid’s work.
The sculptures themselves are hands made from steel, standing at 2.7m high. Liam designed the pieces to be raw, creating their own finger prints/identity whilst also showing how important it is to not cover things up for those who have to lip read in order to help them get by on a daily basis.
Unveiled yesterday at London’s favourite music venue, the Roundhouse in London, to raise awareness of Signkid’s incredible achievements, made possible through funding from The National Lottery!!
